PCOS Ovulation Challenge & Ovarian Drilling

Surgical approach seems to make sense also in severe cases of polycystic ovaries that do not respond to medication. These patients may benefit from having 5-10 holes drilled through the surface of the ovary performed by diathermy, a procedure called ovarian drilling. Almost 80% of treated patients see regular periods every month, whereas previously they suffered from amenorrhea, meaning that post treatment, they ovulate regularly every month and if there are no other limiting factors, they conceive with 85-90% chances, in the first six months following surgery.
