In case you decide to join a fertilisation procedure with egg donation from a third donor, the procedure at each centre is almost the following.
After contacting our doctor and his direction to the appropriate team of the centre where you will get the donated eggs from, the necessary documents will be required to open your file for the IVF procedure as in any other case.
Then after contacting the coordinator of the centre involved in the recruitment of the suitable egg donor, you will need to make a meeting with them, if you wish and provide with some photos, blood groups and the necessary IVF documents. At this meeting you will be able to explain the characteristics you would like your egg donor to have and also to ask any questions you may have about matching, meaning your match with the egg donor chosen for you from the centre. The main point in the matching process is to match your phenotypic characteristics with the egg donor. These characteristics are: height, weight, eye colour, hair colour, skin colour and blood groups that must be as close to you as possible and compatible with the couple.
Please note that according to the law on egg donation in Greece, the only characteristics that each IVF Unit can share with you are the above mentioned and no further information due to the protection of donors’ personal data. Besides, the only characteristics inherited from an egg donor are the phenotypic ones and not the ones related with psychology, character, studies, interests, as these are characteristics that are shaped during and after the pregnancy phase and later on by the environment in which the child will grow, meaning by you, the parents.
The process of finding an egg donor, due to the increased demand and the priority given, is approximately 2 months. Once an egg donor that is a match and has a compatible blood group with you or your spouse, is found, you will be informed by the Clinic and discuss with the coordinator if you agree with the specific proposal they are making.
If you will agree, the fertilisation will take place in the egg donation centre once the donor is ready and the next step we will take together involves your hormonal synchronization with the specific egg donor and preparing your uterus for the upcoming embryo transfer.
