My own adventure began, at 38, after a fibroid surgery with open surgery that created adhesions clogging my fallopian tubes. So IVF was a one-way option for me. I went to the only doctor that performs IVF in my town, who right before an embryo transfer found out that my endometrium could not be thickened with estrogen. So even though it was down to 6mm endometrium he proceeded with an embryo transfer and of course the attempt failed. While I was disappointed, especially with the treatment I was getting from this doctor, a friend recommended Dr.Sfakianoudis, who after taking my full history told me that we should do a hysteroscopy because he suspected that there were adhesions deeper in the endometrial cavity and possibly inflammation. He was friendly, kind and humane and patiently solved every one of my questions.
His suspicion was confirmed and he told me about the difficult situation of my uterus, although he was optimistic. After months of having to take a regimen of antibiotics combined with intrauterine antibiotics infusions, I tried a blastocyst embryo transfer that I had frozen at my local doctor. Please note that he did not recommend leaving them and moving on directly to a new cycle at his center. Unfortunately, the second attempt also failed and I decided to start the process all over again with Mr. Sfakianoudis. It took 3 more hysteroscopies to clear the adhesions, two cycles of stimulation for egg collection and another three months of antibiotics to do an embryo transfer in May 2023. During this time I was tired and didn’t have much hope, but the doctor was always optimistic and calm. The effort worked out, I had a good pregnancy and finally in February 2024 I gave birth to a healthy baby girl.
There are no words to thank Mr. Sfakianoudis for being an excellent scientist who treated me with humanity and was always there to answer my questions and support me. He and his family will always be in my prayers. I hope God blesses him well and blesses him to contribute to other miracles like my baby’s birth.
