Mini IV, is a popular stimulation protocol in cases of poor ovarian response to ovarian stimulation hormones and therefore it is basically a mini stimulation protocol. It starts with the measurement of the hormone levels on the second day of the menstrual cycle, in order to avoid a cycle that may not be successful in the production of fertile follicles. Then, the oral administration of an ovulatory agent is prescribed for 5 days (eg. Femara, Serpafar). On the third day, a mild stimulation with a low dose of gonadotropins (up to 225 IU per day) is started. This is followed by ultrasound and measurement of estradiol and LH levels, in the blood, on the eighth day and based on their values it is decided whether simultaneous administration of an ‘antagonist’ is necessary to prevent potential early ovulation. The egg retrieval- collection usually takes place between the 10th and the 12th menstrual day, based on the hormonal measurements and the ultrasonic images.
