Classic insemination was applied in all cases of infertility until the early 90’s when micro fertilisation was discovered. The process is very simple. Under aseptic conditions thousands of mobile spermatozoa are deposited around the egg and after 24 hours incubation we observe if the egg has been successfully fertilised. The advantage of this technique is that it allows natural selection to make the choice, meaning that the egg chooses which is the best sperm to get fertilised from.
Nowadays, it is applied to
• Patients that have a history of natural conceptions in the past. This applied for women that have conceived naturally but especially for men
• Women under 40 years of age
• Cases with normal parameters of sperm
• Cases that it has been attempted in the past and has given good fertilisation rates and good quality embryos
